The Adelaide Holocaust Museum & Andrew Steiner Education Centre is proud to announce the appointment of Dr Basia Vucic as its new Museum Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Dr Vucic is an education specialist, researcher and founder whose work sits at the intersection of human rights, philosophy and education. Her career has spanned educational leadership, children’s rights, research and technology, with a particular focus on creating meaningful and innovative approaches to education.
Her academic and professional journey has included research at University College London (UCL) and the Museum of Warsaw, where she explored the work of Janusz Korczak, the pioneering Polish-Jewish educator and advocate for children’s rights who remained with the children in his care during the Holocaust.
Dr Vucic has spent decades working in children’s rights, both in Australia and internationally and brings to the Museum a strong belief in the transformative power of education – particularly education that encourages curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.
Mr Greg Adams, Chair of the Museum’s Board says:
“Her experience and vision will be invaluable as we continue to develop the Museum and its role in educating future generations about the Holocaust, antisemitism, racism and the responsibilities of citizenship.”
Dr Vucic said she was honoured to take on the role at an important moment for the Museum and for Holocaust education.
“I am deeply honoured to join the Adelaide Holocaust Museum & Andrew Steiner Education Centre and to contribute to its next chapter. I believe profoundly in its vision and belief in taking young people seriously and giving them the opportunity to think, question and create.”
Dr Vucic’s appointment comes as the Adelaide Holocaust Museum & Andrew Steiner Education Centre continues to expand its education programs and deliver its first permanent exhibition.
Her leadership will support the Museum’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative and rigorous educational experiences while ensuring that the lessons of the Holocaust remain relevant to new generations.
The Adelaide Holocaust Museum & Andrew Steiner Education Centre warmly welcomes Dr Basia Vucic and looks forward to this next chapter under her leadership.
