Preparing for your school visit

Preparing for your school visit will ensure a more rewarding and enjoyable experience for students.

Booking Logistics

  • If you need to cancel or you are running late on the day, call 08 7089 5237.
  • Payment will be required upon invoice after your visit.
  • Cancellations or requests for rescheduling that are made within 5 school days of your booked visit date will incur a 50% fee.
  • Water bottles can be brought into the Education Centre.
  • Nearby Victoria Square is a suitable place for recess/lunch, including public toilets. A drink fountain is available at the SA Water building – 250 Victoria Square, Adelaide SA 5000.
  • Parking is not available on site. Buses may be able to utilise the bus layover zone at the front of the museum for pick up/drop off if it is not in use by Adelaide Metro.
  • An entrance ramp and lift are available. A unisex accessible toilet is available on each floor.
  • The ‘Introduction to the Holocaust’ program is designed to run for the full 100 minutes. We encourage you to arrive at least 5 minutes early and allow time at the end for bag storage, toilet use, etc…
  • No other materials are required.
  • A bag locker is available.

Support your students’ wellbeing

We want all students to be brought safely into this history, and safely out of it, without traumatising them.

To help prepare your class for their visit, we suggest you:

  • In general terms, talk about the types of things they may see and hear om the Education Program
  • Let them know it is normal to feel upset or sad about what they are learning
  • Listen to their concerns
  • Encourage them to speak to a trusted adult before, during or after their visit
  • Provide them with information about your school counselling services.
  • Provide them with the following hotline information if needed:

Security threatsAHMSEC has a comprehensive security policy in place (confidential and not available directly to schools). Please contact the Education Manager regarding  specific concerns. All visitors must comply with the directions of staff, including emergency invacuation or evacuation procedures.
First aidSchool staff are primarily responsible for administering first aid. A first aid kit and defibrillator are available on site, to supplement first aid equipment brought on excursion by schools. 
All education staff also have a current Senior First Aid Certificate.
