Professional Development

Professional development initiatives at Adelaide Holocaust Museum and Andrew Steiner Education Centre provide teachers with the knowledge and resources to effectively share the stories of the Holocaust to educate and inspire young South Australians to stand up against antisemitism and racism, and actively contribute to a fairer, more just and compassionate world.

Why Do We Need Holocaust Education

By retelling and harnessing the stories of the Holocaust, we can help students understand concepts of democracy, dictatorship, collaboration, resistance, intervention and genocide. Learning these through the lens of the Holocaust helps develop critical analysis of individual events and actions and develops empathy. The goal of Holocaust education is to empower young people to become Upstanders and reflect on the important role individuals play in making a stand against injustice.

How Do We Support Educators to Deliver Their Own Programs

Through a range of professional development seminars offered throughout the year we aim to give educators the tools and confidence required to deliver their own program in school. We also provide a supportive network of peers who share ideas, resources and inspiration for effective strategies in the classroom.
